Agriculture Development

Agriculture and its allied activities have been the cornerstone of India’s economy. With a growing population, the need to increase agricultural production becomes paramount. However, limited land resources and decreasing landholdings pose challenges. TCSRD’s programme aims to seize the opportunity by enhancing land productivity to meet the demands of a growing population and creating sustainable farming methods. The focus is on increasing farmers’ income by boosting farm productivity, agricultural development, and optimising returns from livestock management.

The programme includes the following projects:

  • Agriculture Development
  • Agriculture Development through Institution Building
  • Livestock Management

In Mithapur, agricultural production and farmers’ returns are significantly enhanced through the following  interventions:

  • Capacity building program
  • Introducing new and innovative agricultural practices
  • Improving land productivity
  • Institution building and market linkage

Institution Building

Institution building stands as a core for improving the overall quality of life. The Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) has placed a significant emphasis on institutional development by orchestrating the establishment of five farmer producer companies.

Among these, three are situated in the Okhamandal block of the DevBhumi Dwarka District:

  • Okhamandal Farmer Producer Company Ltd. (OFPCL)
  • Gomti Livestock Producer Company Ltd. (GLPCL)
  • Navjagruti Fisheries Producer Company Ltd. (NFPCL).

The remaining two are based in the Jamnagar District:

  • Theba Farmer Producer Company Ltd. (TFPCL)
  • Latipur Farmer Producer Company Ltd. (LFPCL)

This strategic initiative aims to strengthen rural economies by:

  • Fostering better market linkages
  • Improving operational efficiencies
  • Create sustainable farming methods
  • Boosting the overall productivity

Livestock Management

For households dependent on agriculture and related occupations, livestock is a valuable asset. It not only supplements agricultural production but also contributes to household income during non-agricultural seasons.

Recognising the significance of livestock in rural livelihoods, TCSRD has implemented interventions such as:

  • Breed improvement
  • Deworming
  • Balanced nutrition
  • Animal healthcare and
  • Vaccination

These efforts aim to enhance milk output from milch animals, minimize animal healthcare costs through preventive measures and boost fodder development to enhance overall wellbeing and sustainable income opportunities for farming communities.

Cluster Development Programme

The formation of clusters is a crucial aspect of the programme, aimed at promoting handicrafts and non-farm livelihood options. The program fosters skill development, unity and economic self-sufficiency among artisans.

Six vibrant clusters have been established in Mithapur, including:

  • Bandhani
  • Raxine
  • Beadwork
  • Jute
  • Coconut Fiber
  • Patchwork

This initiative has also been instrumental in sustaining the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as many of these clusters are derived from SHGs formed in sub-urban areas and villages of the Okhamandal block.

These clusters are created  and supported by TCSRD:

  • Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar  Raxine Cluster (Surajkaradi, Started 2008-09)
